I love technology. I've written about it regularly. In my professional life it has been a big help. I can schedule, bill, and generally communicate online. Although it's all available on my iPhone I currently do my billing from my desktop. However I have a credit card reader and have used that a time or two.
I have free programs on my computer that allow me to write music and make copies as nice as any publication. And I have a recording program that will allow me to make very high quality recordings. Twenty-five years ago this capability cost nearly a quarter million dollars and was only available to a few.
Like most people, I use technology in varying degrees daily. From paying bills to shopping to news and entertainment, technology is a constant companion. I really do love it..........usually.
But on days like today, when it doesn't do what it's supposed to do, it makes me use bad words. I called customer service of a company I recently did business with today ("customer service" - HA!!) and I ended up chasing my tail. Every option lead me back to the main menu.
I was putting together some lesson materials for an online student and the program started misbehaving and just plain denied that I existed. The computer screen just stared at me while I called it foul names and suggested some tortuous schemes. A stoic rebellion with undertones of mockery.
So I postponed writing todays blog for fear that my computer would simply self-destruct like a "Mission Impossible" gag. And of course my blog has descended into a rant.
You can cause a staunch Republican to foam at the mouth just by mentioning Obama or Clinton. You can get the same result from a Democrat by praising Trump. And me? Just mention the joys of computing today and I'll start squawking like Donald Duck. Here's to a better tomorrow.
